On Saturday the 2nd of May 2009 The Gillingham Imperial Silver Band led a parade through the town to celebrate the 150th anniversaryof the railway coming to Gillingham.
Led by Nigel Perrin with Steve Ingham and Peter Gatehouse behind trying to keep the front of the parade in a straight line, the band moved off from the town car park making its way to the roundabout at the top of the town. The parade then turned right on to the le Nerbourg way left in to station road finishing at Roses yard.
The parade following the band consisted of many town dignitries, which included the Mayor Mr Ian Stewart, Mr David Watham the town cryer, Mr Nick Baker leading a cavalcade of steam engines followed at the rear by the Wessex Highlanders. The pavements had many on lookers watching the parade in the gorgeous sunshine. Once the Parade had reached Roses yard the band and the Wessex Highlanders played in turn for approximately an hour. Playing the highland Cathedral as a joint piece at the end.
